Types We Treat

Types of Muscle Pain We Treat

We treat all kinds of muscle pain. Here are the conditions we see most often.

Myofascial Pain

Pain from trigger points and tight bands in muscle and fascia. It can refer pain to other areas and cause knots that are tender to touch. We use targeted treatment to release the tension and ease the pain.

  • Trigger points
  • Muscle knots
  • Referred pain

Muscle Strain

When muscle fibres are overstretched or torn, often from sport, lifting, or a sudden movement. It can be acute or become chronic if not managed properly. We help you recover and reduce the chance of it happening again.

  • Muscle tenderness
  • Pain with movement
  • Muscle weakness

Muscle Spasms

Involuntary contractions that can cause cramping, tightness, and pain. They can come from overuse, dehydration, or underlying muscle or nerve issues. We work out the cause and help you get relief.

  • Involuntary contractions
  • Muscle tightness
  • Painful cramping

Chronic Muscle Pain

Muscle pain that has lasted more than 3 months. It can affect sleep, work, and daily life. We look at the full picture to find what is keeping it going and put together a plan that works for you.

  • Persistent discomfort
  • Muscle tension
  • Reduced mobility

Muscle Tension

Ongoing tightness and stiffness in muscles, often from posture, stress, or repetitive use. It can build up over time and become painful. We help you relax the muscles and address the triggers.

Trigger Points

Small, tender spots in muscle that can refer pain elsewhere. They often feel like knots and can cause headaches, back pain, or limb pain. We target them with injections and hands-on techniques to get you comfortable again.

Questions

Common Questions

Do I need a GP referral?

Yes, you will need a GP referral so we can review your full medical history before your appointment. Ask your GP to refer you to Beacon Pain Clinic, and then book your consultation here or call us on 01 293 7177.

What is myofascial pain?

Myofascial pain comes from tight bands or trigger points in muscle and the surrounding fascia. It can cause local pain and referred pain in other areas. It is very common and often responds well to targeted treatment.

What is the difference between strain and spasm?

A strain is when muscle fibres are overstretched or torn, usually from injury or overuse. A spasm is when the muscle contracts involuntarily and does not relax. Both can be painful; we can help identify which you have and treat it appropriately.

Will I need surgery?

Most muscle pain is managed without surgery. We focus on injections, medication, and rehabilitation first. Surgery is only considered when other options have not worked.

Is it covered by insurance?

We accept all the major insurers. We recommend checking with your insurer to confirm what is covered under your specific policy.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first visit lasts about 30 to 45 minutes. The specialist will go through your medical history, carry out an examination, and discuss your symptoms with you. From there, we create a tailored pain management plan designed around what will work best for you.
